Ceasar's Americanus (aka Sam... as in Uncle Sam (get it?))

Another baby boy 8/20/06 3am

Welcome Sam!

Sarah's newborn rests about 6 hours after entering this world...

Look at me!

Sam stands tall and strong within hours...all 19.8 pounds of this guy are full of life!

Mother and Son

Looks like they posed for this one, doesn't it?

Hello Gertrude Stein! born 6/27/06 2:30pm

Yeah!  Finally a little girl - the first after 7 boys!  And what a beautiful baby she is!

Minutes old - Momma Tess conducts inspection.

Tess has looked ready to deliver since Saturday. Around 2pm I saw a couple of legs coming out. By 2:30 Gertrude had arrived!

Gertrude meets her new family

Everyone comes over to say hello and inspect the newcomer. Thunder is particulary curious. Tess is back to eating.

How do these things work?

Getting on those legs is problematic at first! But within the hour she has mastered standing.

Resting up

After getting on her feet and nursing for the first time Gertrude takes time out to gather her energy. It was a chilly rainy day and she had to be dryed with a hair dryer to keep her from shivering.

Thunder is in Love!

He is so excited to have someone his size in the pasture!!

Meet Thunderbolt, born 6/19/06 1:15 (or so...)

Why THUNDERBOLT? Thanks go to the inventive Kelly Swart who offered up that Kennywood treasure! It works for a couple of reasons;

  • all my alpacas are required to have a Pittsburgh related name

  • he is bizarrely white (out of a brown mama and a black daddy),

  • he was born on a thunderous (as in storms) day,

  • and he is a big boy. Ergo Thunderbolt!!!

15 minutes old 1:30pm

How about that? Look where you are now little one! Mom has gone back to focus on more important things.

The wonder of it all...

Must be amazing to be thrust into this bright world?

It's time to get up!

Mom periodically encourages him to think about getting up...

1:45 or so and on his feet!

He got the reverse thing down pat. Now it's time to figure out forward!

Mom yells encouragement

22 pounds and up ... well kind of...

He is a little devil!

While Lisa was helping with Gertrude, Thunder snuck up behind her to say hello!!! 6/27/06
