Summer 2009 Baby Pictures

August Wilson born 06/22/09 12:30pm

Design delivered Wilson discreetly behind the barn.  I found them moments after the delivery.  He's a big baby boy for Design.. her largest ever at 20lbs.  What great markings this little guy has.. the brown circle around his left eye is priceless!  Design delivered both her and her herdsire's (5Peruvian Santana)  awesome confirmation and crimpy fiber in this little guy.  Want to learn more about his namesake?

ET?

Just born very wet, August Wilson looks a lot like ET!?

Audience applauds

Chris and John were here for both this birth and Mary's. They are officially our good luck charms now!

It's a Little Overwhelming

To enter the world and be surrounded by four legged and two legged folks! Still with a good amount of his sack attached to his head...

Very flexible!

Trying to stand, Augie demonstrates his flexibility in a graceful swan dive into the grass...

Mom is very protective!

Augie gains strength in the sun while Mom stands guard!

Mary Cassatt born 06/15/09 1:30pm (learn more about Mary Cassatt and her connection to Pgh)

Tessa had a tough winter (lost 30 pounds, went to a special clinic in Ohio for a week, endured all kinds of poking and prodding) and for a bit there I wasn't sure she would make it!  She not only fully recovered but she gave birth to a very healthy pound baby girl!  That's actually one of her bigger babies ever!    Mary is amazing.  Almost immediately to her feet and went to nurse on just her second try on up on all fours! She has dense crimpy fleece and confirmation reflecting both dam and herdsire Standing Ovations.

20 Minutes old

From the time I saw her head and feet being delivered to the time she hit the ground it was less than four minutes. And she was full of energy the minute she hit this world!

On her Feet

Usually a cria takes several tries to get up on all four legs. Not Mary - first try and she balances, albeit a bit drunkenly, on all four!

Nursing fast!

The first time she got up on all fours she also attempted to nurse. And most importantly actually was in the right place!

Drying in the sun

You can already see her fleece is just lovely. She is gathering strength and drying...

How Lovely

Mary Cassatt paintings pale in comparison to this beautiful little face! All dry.

Henry Clay Frick born 06/08/09 10:30am (learn more about the man and his Pgh legacy: Henry Clay Frick)

FINALLY Fiona gave birth.  I pulled into the driveway just about as it happened.  Henry was born in the barn.  I picked him up and brought him out to the pasture - way more dignified to spend your first moments on grass than gravel!  His 23.6 lb weight is the heaviest for any cria from Fiona or any other mom here.  Fiona broke her own gestation record or 340 days by going 355 with Henry.  Henry's sire is Full Accoyo Principe Dorato

Finally out!

You can still see the sack on him around his legs. He was born in the barn and I picked him up and brought him out to the pasture so he could start drying in what little sun there was today.

Still trying to figure out what happened...

Willa and Lera are captivated by Henry's sudden appearance and spend more time checking him out than even his own Mom!

Okay, that's enough!

Fiona steps up and makes sure the other girls don't get too close!

Checking out the equipment

Front seems to work pretty well... but the back took a little longer to make work! Henry's got some daddy long legs!

Trying to get dry..

Although he may look dry, his fleece is still very wet on the inside. But it sure makes him look even bigger with the outside fluffing out. His fleece is very bright!
